With deepest sorrow we announce the passing of Don “Doc” Odenbach, on May 9, 2018, at St. Boniface Hospital, from Congestive Heart Failure and complications from pneumonia.
Doc is survived by his loving friend Carla Wurtak, mother Sylvia Dewey, step-father Rodney Dewey, beloved Uncle Don Schurek, cousins Clayton, Jason, Ashley and families, and three nephews Blair, Jonathon, and Kristopher Leger.
He was predeceased by his sister Laurie Odenbach, father Derril Odenbach and maternal grandparents Pauline and John Schurek.
Doc was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. As a child he was interested in sports, which continued into his adult life. He excelled in hockey, softball, kick boxing, and all types of martial arts. Another of his loves was his Harley motorcycle.
His main career was with the Police and Government Services, where he travelled all over the world. Thereafter he became a truck driver, working throughout Canada and the USA.
Some years after moving to Manitoba, he met Carla and enjoyed four years of laughter and companionship despite his failing health. He was surrounded by loving family and friends in his last days, and at the end slipped peacefully away.
Doc valued honesty and trust in everyday life. Those who came to know him respected and valued his advice and friendship.
Special thanks to the dedicated doctors, exceptional nurses and staff at St. Boniface Hospital and the Bergen Cardiac Care Centre, who worked tirelessly to help him maintain a quality of life. Doc sincerely appreciated all of his home care nurses, in particular Donna and Marie, who literally saved his life on more than one occasion.
As per Doc’s wishes, two informal social gatherings will occur, one in the town of Warren, MB and the other in Edmonton, AB to say goodbye. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bergen Cardiac Care Centre at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, MB
